Derrick Richardson is the pastor of Community Abundant Life Church, Inc. (C.A.L.C., Inc.) in Oklahoma City, OK, "the church where everyone is family." He was led to start this non-denominational church in February 2003. It is the mission of Community Abundant Life Church to be active in the community by providing ministries and tackling important issues such as, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, Elder Care, After School Care, Mentoring and much more.

The First Worship Service was held on Sunday, February 2, 2003 at Metro-Tech, OKC. It started with a humble group of fifty-five (55) members gathering together for the purpose of praising God in prayer, songs and the Divine Word. Since that meager beginning, with dynamic leadership and God as the guiding force behind this movement, Community Abundant Life Church has risen to higher heights with a membership of over one-hundred and thirty (130), church furnishings, a new worship facility and youth center.

Pastor Richardson is a native of Los Angeles, CA. In October of 1997, he accepted employment with a company in Oklahoma City and left the city of the angels and earthquakes to come to the city of friendly people and tornados. Since coming to Oklahoma, he has been very active in the community. He is a member of the Executive Council of The Jim Thorpe Association, AAFCAP (African American Faith Community for Aids Prevention), New Covenant Fellowship, Marcus Garvey Leadership Academy Advisory Council and C.A.R.E. For Change. Pastor Richardson also serves as a volunteer mentor at Western Village Elementary School in Oklahoma City. In 1999, he received the Jim Thorpe Award for his commitment to the community.

Just to let you know, prior to being led to start Community Abundant Life Church, Richardson served as senior pastor at Collins Community A.M.E. Church and Sherman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Spencer, Oklahoma. He also served as the Assistant to the Pastor at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Oklahoma City, OK. Pastor Richardson has been preaching the gospel, for over twenty-four years. During this time, he has conducted revivals, held workshops, and served as youth leader and assistant pastor.

Did you know, in April 2001, Pastor Richardson founded, Community Abundant Life Ministries, Inc. (C.A.L.M., Inc.). This non-profit organization was established to provide meaningful programs in the community. Currently, C.A.L.M., Inc. is providing "Respite and Elder Care" in the northeast quadrant of Oklahoma City. Along with the respite program, CALM provides scholarships, clothes and food to the community. In the fall of this year, we will also offer mentoring and tutoring programs along with providing professional clothes closet and job interview training to those that need it. We are developing a Healthy Seniors Program that will assist our seniors in living longer lives.

When asked, why go to church, Pastor Richardson replied, "Coming to church and being involved in church is an important service to God and to His people. People today are looking for a place that they can come and worship the Lord and not to be hassled. With all of the headaches that we face during the week at work, home and even in school, church should be a place of comfort, rest and peace. People are always asking the question, "Do I have to join a church to become a Christian?" The answer is no. Joining a church does not make you a Christian. Being born again makes you a Christian. Church membership is serious. So much so that a person should never place their name on a church roll without praying and getting direction from God."

Reverend Derrick Richardson’s motto is, I John 5:12, "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life." God has commanded His people to LIVE. Derrick has two sons and two daughters.
